Up for sale, a 2016 Fender Japan Exclusive Classic '60s Stratocaster in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Essentially a rebranding of the ST62-US model, this Stratocaster (as the name would suggest) was made exclusively for the domestic Japanese market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin. Outfitted with a factory installed trio of Fender American Vintage 57/62 black bobbin single coils, this guitar delivers classic sparkle and cut. The bridge pickup has plenty of clarity and treble zing, the neck pickup is smooth and broad, and positions 2 and 4 on the five-way switch offer quintessential Strat quack. The guitar weighs 7lbs 12oz, dialed in to play its best here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder and rolled fretboard edges for added comfort, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .935" at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has stock slender fretwire which retains its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2, with wear extending faintly beneath the B string until fret 8. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 42mm in width (1.650"), and the headstock features Kluson-style tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably.
The electronics function as intended, with the Fender American Vintage 57/62 pickup set wired to the original Japanese harness. The chrome plating on the hardware is gleaming, and plastics include a pale mint green pickguard and cream pickup covers and knobs. The finish is abbreviated OCR by Fender Japan for Old Candy Apple Red, as this is a darker, richer shade of this custom color than previous Fender Japan offerings. Cosmetic wear is limited to just a few tiny nicks in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is nigh flawless, highlighting light figuring on the profile length.
