Up for sale, a 2016 Fender Japan Exclusive '60s Precision Bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with a Fender strap and tweed gigbag. As the name would suggest, this was a model only offered in the Japanese domestic market and an upper-tiered example with an alder body, vintage-spec spiral bridge saddles, full-size tuner baseplates, and a USA-made Fender pickup.
The bass has a traditional feel and tonal palette, with a smooth, even sound in every register. The roundwound strings ensure ideal treble detail, and rolling the Tone knob back to taste yields ample thump and a rich foundational sound for any ensemble. The instrument balances well on a strap and weighs 8lbs 15oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this bass is dialed in with 45-100 roundwound strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The one-piece maple neck has a medium C profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The thick rosewood fretboard has a vintage 7 1/4" radius with original slender frets that have their full factory height, showing virtually no wear and featuring flawless crowns. The bass conforms to traditional Fender spec with a full 34" scale and comfortable 42mm wide nut (just shy of 1 11/16"). On the headstock, the original clover button tuning machines are intact with bright chrome plating and large vintage-spec baseplates, and the lightly ambered peghead sports the correct '62-style Fender Precision Bass decal.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the chrome bridge base and control plate shine like new. The dark brown tortoise pickguard contrasts with the gloss three-tone Sunburst finish, and cosmetic wear is limited to a few extremely faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The neck profile is flawless, with a smooth ambered gloss.
The original tweed Fender gigbag is included, along with a Fender-branded strap.
