Up for sale, a 2015 Martin D-18 Standard Series in excellent condition and in perfect working order, finished in "1933 Ambertone." A modern Martin finish inspired by the way a particular 1933 Martin OM with their Shaded Top sunburst finish aged and mellowed over a number of decades, Ambertone is a rich, ruddy burst framed by multi-ply tortoise binding and accented by a deep reddish brown tortoise pickguard.Tonewoods include a solid Sitka spruce top with forward shifted X-bracing, an uncommonly figured flame mahogany back, mahogany rims, and an ebony fingerboard and bridge. The instrument delivers bold, powerful, textured low end, with clear, smooth trebles and an overarching depth and punchiness that really presents itself on the wound strings. There’s a liveliness to this Martin indicative of a top that’s had a few years to open up and resonate optimally, with excellent string-to-string clarity. This Martin weighs 4lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-54 bronze strings and easy-playing action. The mahogany neck has Martin's Modified Low Oval neck shape and High Performance Taper, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .895" at the 9th. The ebony fretboard features abalone dot inlay and flawless slender fretwire, playing cleanly up the 25.4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1 3/4“ in width. The headstock sports an Indian rosewood veneer and Grover open-gear tuners with butterbean buttons and gleaming nickel plating. The ebony bridge features a compensated bone saddle, and the top and back are framed by deep red tortoise binding. There is some requisite light pick wear across the tortoise pickguard, and cosmetic wear includes one shallow ding on the treble side lower bout on top and a few faint finish scratches in the clearcoat central to the back. There are a couple areas of light palm wear through the satin finish on the neck profile and a few scuffs on the headstock edges from contact with a string winder. A strap button has also been added to the treble side of the neck heel. The original Martin-branded black tolex hardshell case is included.
