Up for sale, a 2015 Fender Japan Exclusive Classic 60s Stratocaster FSR vintage reissue electric guitar in near mint condition and in perfect working order. This Stratocaster has been upgraded with a set of Fender Custom Shop '69 Stratocaster pickups and a Fender '60s-style black tolex hardshell case.
Made only for the Japanese market as the model name suggests, this Strat model is rarely seen outside its country of origin and was a particularly short-lived FSR (Factory Special Run) release. Often considered to rival Fender's US production in terms of overall quality, this Strat is a testament to the workmanship and eye for detail evident in the Made in Japan Fender models.
The upgraded set of Fender Custom Shop '69 single coils feature gray fiber bobbins, alnico V magnets, and cloth-covered leads. These pickups produce a dynamic range of late-'60s flavored tonalities, harnessing the Hendrix-centric sounds that ruled the era from Monterey on the West Coast to Woodstock on the East Coast. Because of the clarity and transparency created by the unique coil wind and magnet structure, the '69 pickup design works especially well with pedals, allowing the low end to thump and the high end to soar. Featherweight at 7lbs 1oz, this Fender has been professionally setup here at Mike and Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a modestly slender ‘60s-style C profile carve with moderate shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard boasts virtually flawless stock slender fretwire. The guitar plays effortlessly with a straight neck and an ideally adjusted truss rod, and the guitar conforms to traditional Fender parameters with a 25 1/2" scale length and 1.670" nut width (just shy of 1 11/16"). The headstock retains the original Kluson-style Gotoh tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The guitar retains its "Made in Japan" text and JD-prefix serial number just north of the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as they should, with the stock Japanese wiring harness, five-way switch, and upgraded trio of Fender Custom Shop '69 single coil pickups. The guitar has a full-size tremolo block for optimal sustain, and the vibrato responds effortlessly for deep dives and expressive warbles, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. The plastics include a mint green pickguard with a bit of requisite pick scuffing on the treble side, paired with cream pickup covers and knobs. The chrome hardware is gleaming, and there's barely a scratch on the custom color Shell Pink gloss finish. The neck profile gloss is equally pristine.
A black tolex Fender-branded hardshell case is included. Two of the three latches function, the original handle is intact, and a Fender logo is present on the case exterior.
