Up for sale, a 2015 Fender Japan Exclusive Classic ‘50s Telecaster in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, upgraded with four-way switching and compensated brass saddles. This Tele was part of the short lived "Japan Exclusive" line, which was produced from 2015-2017. As the name purports, it was built exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside of its country of origin, with premium fit and finish work that provided stiff competition for Fender’s American Vintage series instruments.
Featuring an ash body, one-piece maple neck, brass bridge saddles, and the original Fender Japan single coil pickups, this guitar delivers a classic Tele tonal palette. There’s ample chime and cut on tap; fat and throaty in the neck position, with chewy, snappy sparkle and twang in the bridge position. Additionally, the 4th position on the upgraded pickup selector engages both pickups in-series for a particularly big, bold sound. This Tele weighs 7lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a deep U-shaped profile carve with ample shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .880” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius and retains the stock slender fretwire. The frets are practically perfect, retaining their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-5. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock nut measures 42mm (1.650”) in width. The headstock sports Kluson-style tuners which turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and JD15-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the stock pickups wired to the augmented harness featuring a four-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The hardware all shines like new, including the dome-topped knurled knobs, control plate, and bridge with upgraded compensated brass saddles, which offer exceptional sustain and note attack. The body is accented by a one-ply matte black pickguard just like a genuine example from the early '50s, with some requisite scuffing along the strum path.
The gloss Butterscotch Blonde finish highlights the broad, dynamic grain in the ash body, and the guitar is notably well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to one tiny ding on the top central to the lower bout and just a handful of faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
A gigbag is included.
