Up for sale, a 2014 Tokai Goldstar Sound AST-118 S-Style electric guitar in showroom-clean condition and in perfect working order. Like-new and imported direct from Toyko, this premium Japanese-made Strat features a Blue Burst gloss finish over an ash body, paired with a maple neck and dark slab 22 fret Indian rosewood fretboard.
The guitar delivers a clear, authoritative acoustic tone, translating faithfully through Tokai's black bobbin ST-Vintage MK3 single coils. Via the five-way pickup selector switch, there's plenty of treble-centric sparkle and sweetness in the bridge position, with a cutting and percussive middle pickup, and a warm, round-sounding neck position, all with the midrange authority and note attack inherent in ash as a tonewood. Lightweight at 7lbs 7oz, this Tokai has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a slender ‘60s-style C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .805" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The Indian rosewood slab fretboard features flawless medium jumbo fretwire which plays cleanly in every register up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The carved bone nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock features Gotoh's SD-91 Kluson-style tuning machines that turn smoothly. The "Made in Japan" text and serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
The Tokai MK3 pickups are wired to full-size 250k pots and a five-way pickup selector toggle. Hardware includes Tokai's ST-VK2 Tremolo, and the chrome plating on the hardware shines like new. Plastics comprise white pickup covers and knobs and a white pearloid pickguard. There's barely a scratch on the Blue Burst gloss finish which highlights the dynamic grain of the ash body.
The padded Tokai-branded gigbag is included.
