Up for sale, a 2014 Gretsch Brian Setzer Hot Rod model 6120-SHBKTV in mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A premium iteration of the 6120, this guitar features a satin Flat Black finish, trestle-braced body, and USA-made TV Jones Filter'Tron pickups
Some of the finer points of this Gretsch include the archtop maple body with bound oversized F holes, two-piece maple neck, bound ebony fingerboard with Neo-Classic "thumbnail" inlays, three-position pickup switch and singular Master Volume knob, silver plexi pickguard with “Hot Rod” text and flames, Adjusto-Matic bridge, Sperzel USA locking tuners, and a Bigsby B6G vibrato tailpiece.
Tonally, this guitar has plenty of classic Filter'Tron power and twang on tap via the TV Jones humbuckers, with a rich and defined sound that is uniquely Gretsch. The all maple construction with trestle bracing offers a full, percussive, articulate voice when strummed acoustically that translates well through the pickups. Plugged in, the guitar delivers an incredible amount of clarity in all pickup positions, reproducing complex chords and voicings with stunning ease. The 2 1/2" deep hollow body softens the note attack slightly, yet the pickups have plenty of bite and snarl to keep the top end lively. This guitar is featherweight at only 7lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action, 10-46 strings, and accurate intonation.
The two-piece maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .915” at the 9th. The bound ebony fretboard features neo-classic thumbnail pearloid inlays and flawless slender vintage-style fretwire, playing cleanly up the 24.6" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16“ in width. The headstock boasts a set of Sperzel USA locking tuners, and the face features an inlaid Gretsch logo and Hot Rod plaque.
The simple electronics function flawlessly with a single Volume knob and three-way pickup selector switch. The nickel-plated Adjusto-matic bridge works in tandem with the Bigsby tailpiece for quick warbles and deep dives, jumping back to the original pitch with ease and offering optimal intonation and stability. The body sports a Flat Black satin finish, framed by white binding, and there's barely a scratch on the body. The finish on the neck profile is glossier than the body, exhibiting no wear.
The original Gretsch black tolex hardshell case is included.
