Up for sale, a 2013 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1958 Les Paul Standard “R8” in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Lifton-style brown hardshell case, COA, hangtags and case candy. This Custom Shop ‘58 Les Paul Standard features a gloss Heritage Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish, highlighting particularly dynamic grain on both sides of the bookmatched top, and broad, dimensional flame figuring extending evenly across the maple cap, with certain angles highlighting particular areas of flame. Other premium appointments include a very early pair of Custom Bucker PAFs, hot hide glue construction, and vintage-correct plastics and hardware. This instrument is notably lightweight for a Les Paul at only 8lbs 8oz.

The Custom Bucker humbuckers are Gibson's latest and most highly praised iteration of the PAF platform, available exclusively in select Custom Shop models. Featuring AlNiCo III magnets, these low-medium output pickups have all the chirp, honk, and bloom you could want. The set in this particular guitar is dynamic, highly detailed, balanced; comfortably versatile with any playing style. The bridge has plenty of bite and growl, while the neck pickup has the buttery girth and power one expects without sacrificing clarity. Demonstrative of what quality tonewoods are capable of, there are few things finer than the rich warmth of mahogany paired with a carved maple top that adds cut and attack. This Les Paul has been dialed in here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The quartersawn one-piece mahogany neck has a proper "baseball bat" C-shaped profile carve, a very chunky and substantial shape with generous shoulder, measuring .925” deep at the 1st fret and 1.015” at the 12th. The bound Indian rosewood fretboard features aged cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlay, with stock medium jumbo fretwire that exhibits just the tiniest hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nylon nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports a holly veneer, authentic stepped two-ply truss rod cover, and the original Kluson Deluxe single-line tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with push-in bushings. The neck joint features long tenon construction, with a hide glue fit.

All of the electronics function as intended, and both pickups retain the dated Custom Bucker stickers on their baseplates. The harness features untouched solder joints and oil-in-paper “bumblebee” tone caps, and the requisite “R8” stamp is also present in the corner of the control cavity. The original hardware has positively gleaming nickel plating (in contrast to the muted VOS aging seen on many other Historic examples), including the pickup covers, no-wire ABR-1 bridge with nickel-plated brass saddles and corresponding lightweight aluminum stopbar. Plastics comprise the quartet of butyrate gold bonnet knobs, amber switch tip, M69 cellulose acetate butyrate pickup rings, and the single-ply cream pickguard.

The Heritage Cherry Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer gloss finish is particularly rich, with quite a bit of red in the burst. Cosmetic wear is limited to a couple exceedingly faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the back, and one tiny, shallow ding just north of the rear control cavity cover. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original brown Lifton-style Gibson hardshell case with pink interior is included, as well as the original hangtags, factory paperwork, and COA.
