Up for sale, a 2013 Fender Vintage Hot Rod '50s Stratocaster in exceptional condition, complete with the original tweed G&G hardshell case and hangtags. Among the rarest and shortest-lived iterations of the American Vintage Strat platform, this discontinued model was the second generation of the Hot Rod platform (offered circa 2013-14). Features include a D-shaped neck profile carve, 6105 fretwire, locking Kluson-style tuners, a compound 7.25-12" fretboard radius, and a Flash Coat nitro lacquer finish.

Tonewoods include an ash body and one-piece maple neck, yielding an authoritative, lively natural acoustic tone. The pickups have been upgraded to a trio of Seymour Duncan Antiquities, with a pair of gray bobbin Antiquity IIs in the neck and middle positions and a black bobbin Antiquity I at the bridge. These pickups feature staggered alnico pole pieces, offering plenty of bounce and sparkle. The neck pickup has a chiming, sweet sound, with a RWRP middle pickup that delivers thinned-out quack in positions 2 and 4 on the five-way switch. The S1 switch on the Volume knob cap engages the bridge pickup in positions 3-5 on the switch, further thickening the sound. The guitar weighs 7lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, easy-playing action and accurate intonation

The maple neck has a medium depth D-shaped profile carve at the nut, with notable heft further up the fretboard and particularly full shoulders, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. The maple fretboard has lightly rolled fretboard edges and a 7.25-12" compound radius, offering a vintage feel for chording near the nut, and a radius more sympathetic to lead work and bent notes in the higher registers. The 6105 fretwire is practically perfect with a vintage width and appreciably more height and crown, showing just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. Notes ring out cleanly in every register up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650" in width. The headstock retains the '57-spec Stratocaster waterslide decal and Kluson-style locking tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The neck heel and pocket have numerous factory stamps, and the heel has a pencil date from November, 2013.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with the upgraded Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups wired to the original harness and S1 switch. The vibrato unit has vintage-style saddles and a modern two-point pivot, actuates easily for notably deep, fluid dives and quick flutters. The chrome-plated hardware is bright and clean, and near-mint plastics include a single-ply white guard, ivory knobs and cream pickup covers.

The "Flash Coat" Fiesta Red custom color nitro lacquer finish is lightly applied, ensuring optimal resonance, and the guitar is notably well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to a few small finish chips on the lower bout body edge and edges of the neck pocket. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original tweed G&G hardshell case is included, along with the original hangtags.
