Up for sale, a 2013 Fender American Vintage '64 Jazz Bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original blonde G&G Deluxe hardshell case and hangtags. An example of the uncommon second generation of the AVRI Jazz Bass platform released in '12, retooled to be even more vintage accurate than its predecessors, the later American Vintage series Jazz Basses were a relatively short lived offering from Fender before the line was officially retired.
Boasting a Black gloss nitro lacquer finish, this bass looks and sounds the part of the genuine vintage article. The tone is equal parts low end warmth and midrange cut, with the smooth growl and upper midrange burp of the bridge pickup blending well with the fullness and thump of the neck position single coil. Combined, the two pickups produce an array of sounds appropriate for virtually any live or recording situation. The bass balances well on a strap and weighs 9lbs 3oz, professionally dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a slender U-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .805" deep at the 1st fret and .999" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard sports aged clay dot inlay, and the slender fretwire is flawless. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted, and the bass cleanly up the 34" scale. The nut measures 1 1/2", and on the headstock, the nickel-plated vintage spec reverse gear tuning machines turn very smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work flawlessly, and the chrome hardware shines like new, including the pair of "ashtray" bridge and pickup covers. The bass has been fitted with a tortoise pickguard, and the original parchment guard is also included. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few small dings on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the back and body perimeter, with some light finish scratches in the clearcoat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The natural gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
