Up for sale, a 2013 Boss MO-2 Multi Overtone in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original box and paperwork. This pedal uses Boss’ proprietary MDP technology to allow for polyphonic overtone generation both above and below the input notes, producing a wide spectrum of unique sounds with Balance, Tone, and Detune controls as well as a three-position Mode select knob and Mono/Stereo output jacks.
MDP technology functions by breaking down incoming signals into multiple individual parts or “dimensions” which are differentiated by factors like frequency and dynamics. The MO-2 takes advantage of that technology by producing independent overtones for each separate “dimension”, allowing for polyphonic overtone generation (and making it one of the only Overtone pedals able to do so). That means when playing a chord the MO-2 will produce overtones for each note in the chord, enabling some wholly unique, thick and rich sounds.
Much of the MO-2’s flexibility stems from the Mode select knob, which allows for significant tonal sculpting. Rather than selecting overtones by choosing specific intervals like a harmonizer, the MO-2 Mode knob targets broader frequency ranges. In Mode 1, the higher frequencies are accentuated, giving a multi-string quality to the effect. In Mode 3, the low end is enhanced (somewhat similarly to a sub-octave pedal), while Mode 2 lands somewhere in the middle. Using the Mode knob in conjunction with the Detune control can produce some excellent results; when used with Mode 1, it provides much more thickness and depth, while a detuned Mode 3 has a distinct organ-like quality. This stompbox also has stereo outputs.
Cosmetically, this pedal is in exceptional condition, only one small scuffed area adjacent to the output jacks. The original knob set is intact, as is the serialized foil label on the back.
