Up for sale, a 2012 Gibson Memphis Custom Shop ES-339 semi-hollowbody in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, COA, and factory paperwork. Crafted at Gibson's celebrated and now shuttered Memphis, TN factory, this ES-339 takes the platform of a ES-335 and shrinks the body size while retaining the tonal properties of its big brother. The semi-hollow maple body provides the articulation and note attack for which that particular tonewood is known, while the one-piece mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard add inherent warmth and girth to the sound.
With a pair of PAF pickups (a '57 Classic and Burstbucker #3), the 339 has a smooth, airy treble response with a touch of growl and rich harmonic content. In the neck position, this ES-339 delivers a sweetness and bell-like top end that's great for retaining clarity on solos and complex rhythm work, while the bridge pickup has more midrange aggression and treble bite. Featherweight at 7lbs 1oz, this ES-339 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The neck has a substantial ‘50s-style C-shaped profile carve worthy of the "baseball bat" moniker, with full shoulders in every register, measuring .900" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this tonewood, featuring dot inlay and medium jumbo fretwire which only shows light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-4. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the Gibson Deluxe bolt bushing tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well, and the Custom Shop logo and CS-prefix serial number are also present.
The electronics include the '57 Classic in the neck position and Burstbucker #3 at the bridge, both retaining their PAF decals and additional dated stickers baseplates (the pickups are both Gibson-made and substituted at some point in the guitar's lifetime). The nickel plating is bright and clean on the humbucker covers, with notable patina on the ABR-1 bridge and stopbar. Plastics comprise a quartet of black reflector cap knobs and four-ply wide bevel pickguard which exhibits some requisite pick scuffing. The orange oval label noting Gibson Memphis manufacture is visible through the F hole.
The Cherry nitro lacquer gloss is extremely vibrant and clean, and cosmetic wear is limited to some pinhead-sized dings on the back and behind the bridge on top, and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss.
The original brown tolex hardshell case is included, along with the Custom Shop COA and factory paperwork.
