Up for sale, a 2012 Gibson Les Paul Standard OSB (Oversize Bass) in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. A reworking of the Les Paul Bass LPB-3 platform and a limited model (purportedly only 400 were produced, split between three finish options), this bass has a proportional scaled-up Les Paul body and full 34" scale length.
Tonewoods include a mahogany body, carved maple top and a mahogany neck capped with an unbound rosewood fretboard. At 9lbs 8oz, there's no shortage of punch and sustain, accentuating the top end articulation of maple, with the underlying characteristic warmth and smooth growl of mahogany. The pair of Gibson's TB Plus humbuckers feature ceramic magnets, and these pickups are sonically identical to what you'd find in a Thunderbird. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Bass is dialed in with 45-105 flatwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.
The mahogany neck has Gibson's "rounded" profile, a substantial U-shaped carve with very full shoulders and ideal heft, measuring .870" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard is inlaid with pearloid trapezoids, and the slender factory fretwire is flawless with well-rounded crowns. The scale length measures a full 34" and the bass plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The Corian nut is 1 9/16" in width. On the headstock, the original Grover tuning machines are intact with a 20:1 gear ratio for optimal smoothness and precision, and the headstock face features the Gibson name inlaid in pearloid.
The electronics function as intended, with untouched solder on the harness and original Gibson-embossed pots. The hardware comprises the Tune-o-Matic bridge and matching stoptail, both with gleaming chrome plating. Plastics include a quartet of ambered bonnet knobs which exhibit some small superficial splits that don’t affect the knobs’ stability on the pot shafts.
The Goldtop gloss nitro lacquer finish is notably clean, with just a few small nicks on the back of the body, and the smooth gloss retained on the neck profile length. There is a professionally repaired fretboard separation at the 1st fret on both sides of the fingerboard, reglued flush with the mahogany with the absolute tiniest amount of finish chipping in this area.
The original black tolex form-fit Gibson hardshell case is included, along with the original hangtags.
