Up for sale, a 2012 Gibson Explorer ‘76 vintage reissue in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and owner’s manual. This modern, discontinued iteration of the ‘76-style Explorer platform features all mahogany construction, 490R/498T humbuckers, and a gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish.
Via the 490R and 498T humbucker pair, the guitar has plenty of power on tap, and these alnico magnet pickups cover a wide tonal range. The 490R is Gibson's Modern Classic humbucker, featuring Alnico II magnets and similar in its response to a PAF, yet with more midrange emphasis. The 498T Hot Alnico bridge position pickup has Alnico V magnets, with plenty of muscle and growl, well-suited for high gain scenarios. This Explorer weighs 8lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Rounded C (medium depth), measuring .840” 1st fret, .875” 12th.
-Fretboard: Rosewood, dot inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, very faint wear beneath the plain strings on 2-3
-Scale Length: 24 3/4“
-Nut: 1 11/16”
-Tuners: Grover Mini Rotomatic
-Serialization: Eight digit serial stamp translates to 2012 build date
Body Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Pickups: 490R/498T humbuckers
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone
-Hardware: Nashville bridge, stopbar (chrome)
-Plastics: Black speed knobs, three-ply white pickguard
The gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish has a couple small chips on the lower body points, very faint buckle wear on the bass side of the back, and a few light scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss.
The original Gibson USA hardshell case with white plush interior is included, along with the owner’s manual.
