Up for sale, a 2012 Fender Stratocaster ‘62 vintage reissue model ST62-ASH MH in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original padded gigbag and hangtags. This rare “Made in Japan” Strat features a Transparent Red finish on an lightly figured two-piece ash body, loaded with a stock SSH pickup complement.
This Strat's natural acoustic profile boasts a warm, harmonically-complex midrange, focused low end and sparkling, authoritative trebles. The Dragster humbucker in the bridge position has a throaty richness with ample top end snap and bite, responding notably well to gain for fat distorted tones. The single coil pickups have ceramic magnet construction, delivering more punch and power than the typical alnico design. This ST62-ASH Stratocaster weighs 8lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a moderately chunky C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .980” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a modern 9 1/2“ radius, and the stock slender fretwire is practically perfect, with well-rounded crowns. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, carved from bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. On the matching headstock, the stock set of Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and JD12-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics function as intended; the SSH pickup complement is wired to the stock harness and governed by a five-way pickup selector switch and standard Volume/Tone/Tone controls. Original plastics comprise the three-ply dimensional white pearloid pickguard and the trio of knobs, and the chrome-plated hardware shines like new, with a faint dusting of patina of patina on the Fender-embossed saddles. The vibrato has a full-size block, actuating smoothly and bouncing quickly back to pitch from surfy warbles and deeper dives.
The gloss Transparent Red finish highlights the extremely dynamic grain in the ash body. with cosmetic wear limited to a small cluster of light scratches on the back central to the upper bout. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original Fender-branded gigbag is included, along with the factory hangtags.
