Up for sale, a 2012 Fender Jazz Bass '62 vintage reissue model JB62 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order with a rare Lake Placid Blue custom color finish and dark red tortoise pickguard. Made in Japan and exceptionally well-crafted, this discontinued model was only offered in the Japanese domestic market, rarely seen outside its country of origin. Weighing 9lbs 7oz, this Jazz Bass has a very solid feel with the bridge pickup providing a slightly aggressive, yet full tone that accentuates the sweet growl of a set of roundwound 45-100 strings. The neck pickup has a nice thump and presence as well, and the two single coils compliment each other nicely, with what we feel is the best sound the bass has to offer, equal parts midrange punch and low end warmth. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Jazz Bass plays well with low action and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C profile carve at the nut with appreciable roundness and shoulder as you travel up the neck, with lightly rolled fretboard edges for added comfort, measuring .790" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th. On the thick slab rosewood fretboard, the original slender frets have well-rounded crowns and their full factory height, showing virtually no wear. The bass boasts Fender's traditional 1 1/2" Jazz Bass nut width, with a full 34" scale and vintage-spec 7 1/4" fretboard radius. The bass plays cleanly in all registers, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. On the headstock, the chrome-plated clover button tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Made in Japan" text and JD12-prefix serial are present just above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as they should, with stock pickups and pots. The chrome-plated bridge and control plate have great shine, and the dark reddish brown tortoise three-ply pickguard contrasts nicely with the gloss finish. Abbreviated as OLB or "Old Lake Blue" by Fender Japan, this finish is a vintage-correct, dark, and icy shade of Lake Placid Blue. Cosmetic wear on the body is limited to a couple minor marks on top adjacent to the bridge pickup, and the neck profile has a smooth ambered gloss.
The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
