Up for sale, a 2012 Fender Competition Mustang '73 vintage reissue model MG73-CO in near-mint, 100% original condition with a Fiesta Red custom color finish and matching headstock. Made exclusively for the Japanese market, this Mustang is rarely seen outside its country of origin. Often considered to rival Fender's US production in terms of overall quality, this Mustang is a testament to the workmanship and eye for detail evident in the Made in Japan Fender models.

The stock single coil pickups have a clear, cutting tone, and the on/off/on pickup selector switches can also engage the distinctive Mustang out-of-phase sound. The guitar is featherweight at 7lbs, and the crisp, jangling voice when strummed acoustically translates well through the pickups. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Mustang is strung with 11-49 strings and features low action and spot-on intonation.

The neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .790" deep at the 1st fret and .910" at the 12th. The thick rosewood fretboard boasts 22 slender frets with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing virtually no wear. At 24", the scale length is ideal for smaller hands and players looking to execute chord extensions that might be a bit more of a stretch at Fender's full scale. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width. Matching the body with its Fiesta Red finish, the headstock features Kluson-style tuners with white buttons, and these tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The "Made in Japan" text and JD12-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt F neck plate.

All of the electronics work function as intended, with Master Volume and Tone controls governing the two pickups. The vibrato actuates easily with a smooth, springy response, and the chrome plating on the hardware is bright and clean. The plastics are equally well-kept including the black pickup covers and white pearloid pickguard which has great dimension. Cosmetic wear on the gloss finish is limited to just a couple tiny marks and very faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The neck profile has a flawless ambered gloss finish.

The original Fender-branded padded gigbag is included.
