Up for sale, a 2012 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order. A "Made in Japan" exclusive model not designed for export, this particular Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically, with a PJ pickup configuration, bound body, and Candy Apple Red metallic finish with matching headstock. While most Fender basses that have the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2" nut width of the Jazz Bass, providing both the ample thump and heft of a split coil Precision neck pickup and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz pickup at the bridge. This bass is well balanced on a strap at 9lbs 1oz and professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carve with slight shoulders, lightly rolled fretboard edges, and a smooth satin finish, filling out with more substance as you travel up the fretboard. The profile measures .835” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is an extremely dark and tight-grained cut, and the original frets are virtually flawless and play cleanly in every register. The bass conforms to traditional Jazz Bass specifications with a 34" scale length and easily navigable 1 1/2" wide nut, carved from bone for optimal sustain and clarity. The matching Candy Apple Red headstock features chrome clover button tuning machines that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control with bright chrome, Strat-style knobs. Overall the chrome is quite clean with only a touch of surface patina on the knobs. The finish is officially abbreviated "OCR" for Old Candy Apple Red, designed to be a particularly vintage-correct shade of this classic Fender custom color, framed by top cream binding. Cosmetic wear is limited to a couple stray minuscule marks at the bass side edge of the lower bout. The neck profile is pristine with a smooth satin finish.
The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
