Up for sale, a 2012 Ernie Ball Music Man Axis electric guitar in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Expertly crafted in the USA at Music Man's San Luis Obispo, CA factory, this Axis features a stunning quilted maple top over a lightweight basswood body. A birdseye maple neck with slab rosewood fretboard rounds out the tonewood complement, and two medium output custom DiMarzio humbuckers are mounted directly to the body for optimum resonance and signal response.
This tonewood and pickup combination is a perfect recipe for edgy rock tones while also delivering a clear, dynamic response at lower volume levels when needed. The Axis' asymmetric hard rock maple neck allows for very ergonomic playing, while the Music Man double-locking tremolo keeps the guitar perfectly in tune. Lightweight at 7lbs 7oz, this Axis has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.
The birdseye maple neck has an asymmetrical profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges, featuring prominent shoulder along the bass side and a more slender treble side. The profile measures .830” deep at the 1st fret and .915” at the 12th. Finished with gunstock oil and a hand-rubbed special wax blend, the back of the Axis' neck is pristine with a notably smooth, effortless feel. And with its five-bolt attachment, this neck delivers stability that easily surpasses most set necks. The slab rosewood fretboard features a modern 10” radius, mini dot inlay, and stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets are in great shape, with a hint of wear exclusively beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays well in all registers up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted truss rod, and easy access to the higher registers thanks to the contoured heel. The scale length is a full 25 1/2“, and the locking nut measures 1 5/8“ in width, holding pitch exceptionally well in concert with the Music Man double locking tremolo. The headstock features chrome Schaller tuners with pearloid buttons that turn smoothly.
The electronics function as intended and are untouched from the factory, with a Master Volume knob and three-way toggle pickup selector for the pair of custom DiMarzio humbuckers. The Floyd Rose-style locking tremolo has extremely clean plating, fitted with an EVH "D-Tuna" for on-the-fly Drop D tuning. The rich three-tone Sunburst gloss finish is framed by cream binding, highlighting deep, dimensional waves of quilted maple across every inch of the top. Cosmetic wear is limited to the faintest scuffs on the treble side of the pick path, with a few light finish scratches and minor marks relegated to the sides and back body edge.
The original hardshell case is included.
