Up for sale, a 2011 Sandoval Engineering Karl Sandoval Masterbuilt Randy Rhoads Dot V in collector-grade, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. In 1979, shortly before he began playing with Ozzy Osborne, Randy Rhoads approached Los Angeles luthier Karl Sandoval to build him a custom, one-of-one guitar with decidedly unique aesthetics and top-notch playability. The resultant instrument has gone down in history as one of the most immediately recognizable guitars ever played, indelibly linked to the image of the late, great Rhoads.

Handcrafted by Sandoval himself in Los Angeles, this Dot V is the real deal, with every single aspect of the original design faithfully recreated: from top to bottom, there’s the “harpoon” headstock, bowtie mother-of-pearl inlays, DiMarzio humbuckers, chrome hardware accents, and the iconic white-on-black Polka Dot gloss finish. Tonewoods include a mahogany body, maple neck, and slab rosewood fingerboard, and this Rhoads Dot V is featherweight at just 6lbs 14oz.

The DiMarzio pickups comprise the classic pairing of a Super Distortion at the bridge and a PAF at the neck: the PAF in the neck position has a traditional Gibson-style tonal range with excellent dynamics and articulation, full and powerful while retaining tailored midrange clarity. The Super Distortion in the bridge position is Dimarzio's iconic high powered humbucker, designed to kick an amp into overdrive and engineered for ripping gain. This Karl Sandoval Masterbuilt Dot V has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, dialed in with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
