Up for sale, a 2011 Martin Custom Shop D-45 in showroom like-new, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Martin's flagship dreadnought, the D-45 can trace its genesis to singing cowboy Gene Autry, who requested Martin make him the, "biggest, fanciest Martin" for the tidy sum of $200 in 1933. Only a handful of D-45s were produced in Martin's Pre-War years, and the model has historically been available in exceedingly small quantities compared to Martin's other dreadnought output.

With hot hide glue construction and abalone marquetry liberally used throughout, this Custom Shop example’s distinguishing features include Martin’s Style 45 Snowflake (Long) inlay on the fingerboard, fossilized mammoth ivory saddle/nut/bridge pins/enpin, a Martin stamp on the back of the peghead, Grover tuning machines with engraved buttons, and a Full Thickness neck profile (Standard Taper).

Premium tonewoods comprise an Adirondack spruce top with Golden Era 5/16” Adirondack bracing, East Indian rosewood back and sides, a mahogany neck, and ebony fretboard and bridge. Detailed and muscular, with exquisite string-to-string balance, sound simply leaps from this instrument. The low end is bold and clear with limited compression and a high volume ceiling when digging in hard with a flatpick, and the trebles are sparkling and round. Nuance and power is at the player’s fingertips, and this Martin has tonal breadth to match its considerable cosmetic appointments. This Custom Shop D-45 weighs 4lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
