Up for sale, a 2011 Hofner New President in near-mint 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. This finely-crafted German-made archtop is a modern reimagining of Hofner’s classic President (first introduced in the early ‘50s), featuring a solid hand-carved German AAA spruce top, deeply figured African maple back and rims, and a European hard rock neck capped by a bound ebony fingerboard.
Featuring a 16” lower bout width and a 3 5/8“ body depth, this Hofner projects very well, with a single bass tone bar bracing the carved top (echoing traditional violin and archtop construction). The instrument offers great string-to-string balance, a warm midrange and a dry, percussive cut. The sound has just enough brightness, with a glassiness and articulation attributable to the ebony fingerboard. The floating Hofner/Kent Armstrong pickup is rich-sounding, faithfully capturing the natural sound of the instrument with a focused-yet-open low end and sweet, singing trebles.
