Up for sale, a 2011 Gibson SG Melody Maker in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with an upgrade hardshell case. Featuring a maple body, mahogany neck, and baked maple fretboard, this SG has a cutting and immediate natural acoustic quality channelled through the orignal 491T ceramic magnet humbucker. The 491T humbucker is crafted in the image of Gibson's acclaimed PAF humbucker of the late '50s, reengineered with a ceramic magnet for great power, clarity and sustain. The guitar is featherweight at 6lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and 10-46 strings.
The mahogany neck has a medium C profile carve with generous shoulder and ideal heft while still feeling fast and easy to chord, measuring .850" deep at the 1st fret and .945" at the 12th. The roasted maple fretboard features perfect original medium jumbo frets, and the guitar plays easily up the 24 3/4" scale. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock features the traditional slender Melody Maker shape with a gold Gibson silkscreen and Gibson Deluxe double line tuning machines which turn smoothly with white buttons.
The simple electronics function flawlessly, with the 491T humbucker wired to a Master Volume knob. Hardware includes a gleaming chrome-plated wraparound tailpiece, and a single-ply black pickguard and black bonnet knob round out the plastics. The satin Ebony nitro lacquer finish shows only a few tiny marks and a couple slivers of wear through the nitro on the back body edge, with a few requisite pick scuffs across the guard. The smooth neck profile finish has been buffed to a semi-gloss by the pam.
While this SG came from the factory in a gigbag, it's now paired with an upgraded SKB form-fit hardshell case.
