Up for sale, a 2011 Fender Pawn Shop ‘51 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, sporting a notably rare Candy Apple Red finish. Fender’s short-lived Pawn Shop line, released in 2011, was produced in Japan and featured unique amalgamations of classic Fender components and designs.

The ‘51 model sports a solid basswood (1st generation) Precision Bass-style string through body paired with a one-piece maple neck, loaded with an ST-Single single coil pickup in the neck position and a Dragster humbucker at the bridge. The natural acoustic response is clear and chiming, with good treble articulation faithfully captured by the pickup pair. The ST-Single has a bell-like fullness, with great clarity and cut, and the single coil sparkle is complemented by the throaty richness and bite of the Dragster humbucker at the bridge. This Pawn Shop ‘51 weighs 6lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with prominent shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .930” at the 12th. The fretboard has a modern 9 1/2“ radius, and the medium jumbo fretwire is pristine. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, and the “Made in Japan” text and U-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups wired to the stock harness and governed by a Master Volume control and three-position rotary pickup selector knob. The chrome-plated hardware is all notably clean, including the flat-topped knobs, control plate, and bridge, with a light dusting of patina on the “Fender”-stamped saddles.

The gloss "Old Candy Apple Red" finish is a more vintage-correct application than earlier Fender Japan offerings, dark and rich with subtle metallic shimmer. Cosmetic wear is limited to a handful of minor nicks and scuffs on the back, with one larger ding at the belly contour. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is immaculate.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
