Up for sale, a 2011 Fender Competition Mustang model MG69-BECK/CO in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, finished in custom color Competition Orange, complete with matching peghead. Perhaps surprisingly, this guitar is neither a signature model for Jeff Beck nor Beck Hansen, instead commemorating the Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Harold Sakuishi. The series follows Yukio "Koyuki" Tanaka and his rock band's struggle to fame, and Koyuki plays a Mustang just like this one in the series. This guitar is quite rare, offered only within Japan and rarely seen outside its country of origin.Tonewoods include a poplar body and maple neck capped by a thick rosewood veneer fingerboard, weighing 7lbs 10oz. Acoustically, this guitar is quite resonant, with a clear chiming quality. The alnico magnet MG Vintage single coil pair offers plenty of tonal range between the two pickups, with meatier sounds when the neck pickup is singled out and sparkling cut with the bridge pickup favored. Of course one of the most fun sounds on the Mustang is the out-of-phase setting, engaged when both on/off/on pickup selector switches are at their innermost or outermost points for a distinctive quack and spank. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Mustang is strung with 10-46 strings and dialed in for optimal intonation and slinky action. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with round shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .825” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius and slender frets which retain their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing virtually no wear. At 24", the scale length is ideal for smaller hands and players looking to execute chord extensions that might be a bit more of a stretch at Fender's full scale, and the original bone nut measures 1 5/8" in width. On the Capri Orange headstock, the Schaller-made Fender F tuners with white hexagonal buttons turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and U-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt F neck plate. All of the electronics function as intended, with Master Volume and Tone controls and a pair of three-way On/Off/On switches governing the pickup pair. The vibrato has an easy, effortless response, and the chrome hardware is bright and clean. The plastics are near mint, comprising a white pearloid pickguard and pair of black pointer knobs. The gloss Competition Orange finish is accented by a racing stripe across the bass-side lower bout, and cosmetic wear is limited to one scuff on the back lower bout body edge near the competition stripe, and just a few additional tiny nicks and faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
