Up for sale, a 2011 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass model AJB in perfect working order. A “Made in Japan” model sold exclusively within the Japanese domestic market, this Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically, with features including a PJ pickup configuration, bound body, and gloss Vintage White finish with matching headstock. While most Fender basses outfitted with the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2” nut width of the Jazz Bass. The pickups offer the ample thump and heft of a Precision split-coil neck pickup, and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz Bass pickup at the bridge. Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. This bass weighs 8lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a medium depth U-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .985” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark, tight-grained cut with a 7 1/4” radius, and the slender fretwire is practically perfect. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. On the matching headstock, the clover-button tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and U-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics work as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The chrome-plated hardware bridge and control plate have plenty of shine, with even patina on the steel barrel saddles, and plastics comprise the three-ply pickguard and a replacement trio of standard Jazz Bass knobs. The gloss Vintage White finish is framed on top by black binding, and cosmetic wear includes a number of dings on the body as a whole, most prominent on the lower bout edge, and an area of buckle rash on the back. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile has been buffed to a semi-gloss through play, with just a scant few shallow nicks along the profile length.A gigbag is included.
