Up for sale, a 2011 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass in perfect working order with a US Gunmetal Blue gloss finish and matching headstock. A "Made in Japan" exclusive model not designed for export, this particular Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically, with a PJ pickup configuration, and bound body.
While most Fender basses that have the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2" nut width of the Jazz Bass, providing both the ample thump and heft of a split coil Precision neck pickup and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz pickup at the bridge. Weighing 9lbs 1oz this bass is well-balanced on a strap, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings and comfortable action.
The maple neck has a slender C profile carve with moderate shoulder and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .935" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark and tight-grained cut, featuring dot inlay and pristine slender vintage-style frets with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns. The bass plays effortlessly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. Conforming to traditional Jazz Bass specifications, this Aerodyne features a 34" scale length and easily navigable 1 1/2" nut width. The matching US Gunmetal Blue headstock features chrome clover button tuning machines that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Made in Japan" text and U-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. A set of traditional Jazz Bass knobs have been installed, matching the black pickguard and pickup covers. A finish that sits between Dolphin Grey and Gunmetal Blue, "US Gunmetal Blue" has just a hint of blue in the gloss. Cosmetically, there is scuffing in the pick path, and light marks and chips mostly relegated to the perimeter of the body. The neck profile sports the original semi-gloss finish with some tiny shallow marks that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.
A gigbag is included.
