Up for sale, a 2011 Ernie Ball Music Man Albert Lee MM90 Tremolo in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. While Sunburst may be a ubiquitous finish on most instruments, it's extremely uncommon on the Albert Lee model, and this MM90 features a Vintage Sunburst gloss over the ash body, paired with a birdseye maple neck.
A guitar player's guitar player, Albert Lee is legendary for his fingerstyle and hybrid picking techniques. Proven to be malleable to a variety of genres and musical styles, Lee has performed with the likes of Emmylou Harris, the Everly Brothers, and Eric Clapton. Via the trio of P-90-style pickups governed by a five-way blade pickup selector, the MM90's pickups offer biting treble and ample output, cleaning up nicely with the Volume rolled back. Considerably more girthy than classic single coils while being brighter, leaner, and less refined than a humbucker, these pickups can elicit grind, sizzle, and bark, handling considerable gain well. Weighing 7lbs 6oz, we've had this Music Man professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The figured birdseye maple neck features Music Man's gunstock oil and hand-rubbed special wax blend, a silky satin finish that also highlights the figuring extending the length of the profile and across the headstock. The neck profile carve has a slender C shape at the nut with nicely rounded shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .905" at the 12th. The fretboard has a 10" radius, and the stock medium-size fretwire is in exceptional shape, offering plenty of height and well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6. The scale length is a full 25 1/2", and the compensated nut measures 1 5/8" in width, dimensions familiar to any Fender fan. The neck also features a sculpted joint and five-bolt plate, offering optimal stability and unencumbered access to the highest registers. The headstock features Albert Lee's signature and locking Schaller tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
The electronics function flawlessly, with Master Volume and Tone knobs governing the pickup array. The two-point tremolo has a very smooth, fluid response for quick shimmies and deeper dives with gleaming chrome plating on the base and just a touch of patina on the Strat-style saddles. There's a bit of faint pick scuffing on the treble side of the dark brown tortoise pickguard, and barely a scratch on the vibrant Vintage Sunburst gloss finish. The gunstock oil satin finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original hardshell case is included.
