Up for sale, a 2011 Carr Amplifiers Sportsman 1x12” combo amp in near-mint condition and in perfect working order. Based in Pittsboro, North Carolina, Carr builds meticulous, unique designs with point-to-point construction, premium components, and hand-crafted cabinets. The Sportsman fuses a 1960s Fender Black Panel preamp circuit with a 1950s Fender Tweed-style power section. Instead of being a direct clone of an AB763 Deluxe Reverb, it modifies classic mid-60s American architectures to offer greater tonal flexibility, manageable volume, and variable overdrive, outfitted with a pair of vintage RCA-branded 6V6 power tubes.
Instantly recognizable and heard on countless recordings, there’s nothing like the juicy, sweet, and sparkling tone of a classic American-style amp. Delivering 19 watts, the simple control layout includes Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass, Reverb, and Master knobs. The tube-driven spring reverb is lush and atmospheric, adding exceptional dimension and depth when engaged. The tube complement comprises a matched pair of vintage RCA 6V6s in the power section, with solid state rectification, and four 12AX7EHs in the preamp. Carr uses military- and NASA-grade power supply componentry (Solen Fast Cap Film), and true point-to-point wiring with premium components including custom USA-made transformers and USA-made Jupiter signal capacitors.
The speaker is a 12” Eminence Patriot Swamp Thang ceramic magnet driver, known for its high-output performance, thick low-end response, and rich, biting sustain. The tube chart is intact inside the cabinet, dating to 8/25/11.
The black tolex has only a couple minor tears, with pristine grillcloth and an immaculate faceplate.
