Up for sale, a 2010 Fender '57 vintage reissue Stratocaster model ST57-TX in exceptional condition, with Fender Custom Shop Texas Special pickups and a custom color Black gloss finish. Made in Japan, this guitar was crafted exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin with an unusual and ostensibly original gold anodized pickguard. The guitar weighs 7lbs 13oz, and the factory-installed Fender Custom Shop Texas Special pickups match vintage spec with black fiber bobbins and cloth-covered leads. These clear and chiming Fender single coils have great midrange chirp, tight bass, and a slightly aggressive overwound snap. We've professionally setup this Strat here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C profile carve with generous shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .910" at the 12th. There is unique fretboard discoloration from bleed out into the gloss from the metal in the frets themselves. There is no actual wear on the fretboard, and the discoloration is all below the deeply ambered gloss. The original slender frets are practically pristine, showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The truss rod is responsive, the neck is straight, and the guitar plays well in all registers. The guitar adheres to vintage Fender spec with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius on the 25 1/2" scale, and the nut measures 1 5/8" in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style Gotoh tuning machines have the correct vintage look, turn smoothly, and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the USA-made Texas Special pickups are cleanly wired to the stock Japanese wiring harness with a five-way pickup selector switch. These Custom Shop pickups are an incredible value and feature all of the hallmarks of a vintage Fender design, with black bobbins, staggered alnico magnets, and cloth-covered leads. The anodized gold aluminum pickguard is an unusual feature typically only seen on the top-tier ST57-TX/ALG model (which is only offered in Blonde in the 2010 catalog), and the mounting screw pattern of the guard perfectly matches the body, with distinctive graining consistent with Fender Japan production. The vibrato has a large block for great sustain, and the unit is very responsive for smooth surfy warbles and deeper dives, jumping back into tune with ease. The plastic parts are near mint, and the chrome-plated hardware is gleaming. The gloss Black finish shows only some faint finish scratches on top behind the bridge, and a few scuffs on the back lower bout body edge. The ambered gloss finish on the profile is flawless.
A gigbag is included.
