Up for sale, a 2010 Fender Precision Bass '62 vintage reissue in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and long ago discontinued, this model (officially PB62-US) is quite uncommon outside its country of origin. An upscale iteration of the '62 Precision platform, this bass features a USA-made pickup, vintage-spec spiral bridge saddles and long stem tuners, and an alder body finished in custom color Ocean Turquoise Metallic. The quality is exceptional, and the "Made in Japan" instruments exemplify the attention to detail and dedication on the part of Fender Japan to deliver instruments that have both an alluring vintage look and tone to match.
Strung with 45-100 roundwound strings, the tonewood combination of the alder body, maple neck and slab rosewood fingerboard yields a smooth, balanced natural acoustic tone. Translating faithfully through the USA-made split-coil pickup, the bass delivers plenty of clear muscle and articulation with a broad thump when the Tone knob is rolled back to taste. The bass weighs 8lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features the original slender vintage-style frets that retain their full factory height, showing only very light uniform wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-5. This bass is very rewarding to play, and notes ring out clearly in all registers with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The bone nut has a full 1 11/16" width, with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, and 34" scale length. On the headstock, the clover button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well with long stems and full-size vintage-spec baseplates, and the face of the headstock has a classic Pre-CBS style "spaghetti" logo. The "Made in Japan" text and T-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
The traditional electronics work as they should, with the original pickup wired to Master Volume and Tone controls with knurled metal knobs. The pale mint green pickguard provides a subtle contrast to the Sunburst finish, and the bridge and knobs have gleaming chrome plating. Cosmetic wear is limited to some small nicks and faint finish scratches on the back and body perimeter, mostly localized on the lower bout body edge. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
