Up for sale, a 2010 Fender Mustang MG69/MH-STP in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Made exclusively for the Japanese market and a particularly rare and discontinued non-catalog model, this Mustang boasts a Matte Black satin finish and matching headstock with a unique hardtail design and Tune-o-Matic bridge. This Fender Mustang is emblematic of the top tier workmanship and eye for detail evident in the Made in Japan Fender models.
There's plenty to love about this Mustang, from the resonant body to the pair of stock single coil pickups that deliver plenty of snap and twang. The guitar is featherweight at 6lbs 13oz, and the crisp, clear voice of the instrument when strummed acoustically translates well through the pickups. Of course one of the most fun sounds on the Mustang is the out-of-phase setting, engaged when both on/off/on pickup selector switches are at their innermost or outermost points. The quack and spank of that particular setting is unique to the Mustang, and there's plenty of tonal range between the two pickups, with meatier sounds when the neck pickup is soloed. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Mustang is strung with 11-49 strings and dialed in with spot-on intonation and slinky action.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with more shoulder and overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, and lightly rolled fretboard edges for added comfort, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .940" at the 12th. The jet black rosewood fretboard is technically a veneer as it follows the fretboard curvature, yet it's as thick a cut as many slab boards, boasting medium jumbo frets which retain their full factory height and show only light wear on the crowns beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4. At 24", the scale length is ideal for smaller hands and players looking to execute chord extensions that might be a bit more of a stretch at Fender's full scale. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width. The headstock features Kluson-style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. Above the F heck plate, the Made in Japan text and U-prefix serial number are present.
All of the electronics function as intended, with Master Volume and Tone controls governing the two pickups. Hardware includes the chrome-plated Tune-o-Matic bridge and matching stoptail, and the black pickup covers are framed by a dark brown glossy tortoise pickguard. The satin Matte Black finish shows very light scuffing on the back lower bout body edge and pick wear across the strum path, extending to the finish between the control plate and stoptail. The satin finish on the neck profile has been buffed to a semi-gloss from contact with the palm.
The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
