Up for sale, a 2010 Fender Mustang Bass vintage reissue model MB-SD in like-new condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Fender-branded gigbag. Made in Japan and long ago discontinued, this Mustang Bass is a faithful reissue of the classic short scale Fender model with a factory-installed split-coil USA-made Seymour Duncan pickup. Finished in a creamy shade of Olympic White and accented by a dark reddish brown tortoise pickguard, this iteration of the Mustang Bass was made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, rarely seen outside its country of origin.
There's a certain pluck and punch unique to this bass that's particularly appealing and sits well in a mix, with a thump that fills out the low end nicely while being a bit more focused than a Precision Bass. Slightly more aggressive and midrange forward than a P Bass too, this Mustang Bass is strung with fresh roundwound 45-100 strings, delivering an articulate top end and a touch of growl. The instrument is extremely lightweight at 7lbs 6oz, dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with optimal action and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck features a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gaining a bit more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. On the rosewood fretboard, the slender frets are flawless, and the bass plays cleanly up the 30" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width. On the headstock, the clover button tuning gears turn very smoothly, and the block "Mustang Bass" logo is present on the headstock face. The "Made in Japan" text and T-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
The simple and straightforward electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone controls governing the split coil Seymour Duncan pickup. The chrome bridge and control plate shine like new, and the glossy reddish brown tortoise pickguard contrasts nicely with the finish. Notably more yellowed in its factory shade of Vintage White (i.e. Olympic White) than earlier Fender Japan examples, the bass has barely a scratch on the body, and the ambered neck profile gloss is equally pristine.
The original Fender-branded padded gigbag is included.
