Up for sale, a 2009 Fender Mustang ‘77 vintage reissue model MG77 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This “Made in Japan” guitar is among the more uncommon Fender Mustangs, featuring the unusual tonewood combination of an ash body and a one-piece maple neck, sporting a rare custom color Trans Red finish.

The tonewood complement yields an acoustic response with good midrange heft and woody chop balanced by the articulation inherent to maple. The alnico magnet single coils have plenty of jangle and sparkling cut in the bridge position, while the neck pickup has more warmth and sweetness, retaining a defined overall character. One of the most fun sounds on the Mustang is the out-of-phase setting, engaged when both on/off/on pickup selector switches are at their innermost or outermost points for a distinctive quack and spank. This guitar weighs 7lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .790” deep at the 1st fret and .900” at the 12th. The fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the slender fretwire shows no wear, playing cleanly up the 24” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1 9/16” in width. The headstock has a block logo, and the Kluson-style tuning machines function reliably.

The electronics comprise Volume and Tone knobs for the pickup pair, with o/off/on switches for each pickup. The chrome-plated hardware shines like new, and the vibrato actuates smoothly, working in concert with the barrel saddles and complete with the black-tipped arm. The original three-ply black pickguard is intact, and a second white pearloid guard is also included.

The custom color Trans Red gloss finish highlights the dynamic grain in the ash body, and there's barely a scratch on the body. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is immaculate save for a few tiny marks on the shoulders that are imperceptible to the palm.

A Fender padded softshell case is included, along with the replacement pearloid pickguard.
