Up for sale, a 2010 Fender Mustang '69 vintage reissue, 100% original and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags. Made exclusively for the Japanese market and rarely seen outside its country of origin, this Mustang model (officially model MG69) is a testament to the workmanship and eye for detail evident in the Made in Japan Fender models. There's plenty to love about this Mustang, from the lightweight and resonant body to the pair of stock single coil pickups that deliver plenty of snap and twang. The guitar is featherweight at 6lbs 14oz, and the crisp, clear voice of the instrument when strummed acoustically translates well through the pickups. Of course one of the most fun sounds on the Mustang is the out-of-phase setting, engaged when both on/off/on pickup selector switches are at their innermost or outermost points. The quack and spank of that particular setting is unique to the Mustang, and there's plenty of tonal range between the two pickups, with meatier sounds when the neck pickup is singled out. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Mustang is strung with 11-49 strings and dialed in with spot-on intonation and low action. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges and nicely rounded shoulders in every register, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret and .945" at the 12th. The thick veneer rosewood fretboard boasts 22 stock slender frets which retain their full factory height and show notable wear (favoring the plain strings) on the crowns of frets 1-5, with wear growing lighter beneath the plain strings until fret 8. The scale length measures 24", and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width. The headstock features Kluson-style white button tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. Above the four-bolt F heck plate, the Made in Japan text and U-prefix serial number are present. All of the electronics function as intended, with Master Volume and Tone controls governing the two pickups. The chrome-plated hardware is bright and clean, and plastics include a red tortoise pickguard which shows some pick scuffing on the treble side. The gloss Daphne Blue finish has light buckle rash central to the back, and a few additional tiny dings on the body as a whole. The deeply ambered gloss on the neck profile is flawless. The original hangtags and Fender-branded gigbag are included.
