Up for sale, a 2010 Fender Japan exclusive Billy Sheehan signature model Precision Bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A short run, long ago discontinued iteration of Sheehan's "The Wife" bass, this very rare Fender Japan model features USA Dimarzio pickups, a Hipshot D-tuner, LeoQuan Badass II bridge, and some post-factory scalloping of the last four frets on the treble side, further in keeping with Sheehan's instrument. This bass features an ash Precision body paired with a one-piece maple Telecaster Bass neck for an immediate, articulate, and rich natural acoustic tone. A Dimarzio DP122 P-style split coil pickup with hex poles dishes out both thump and articulation, while the neck position Dimarzio Model One DP120 humbucker has broad, pillowy subwoofer heft. Blending the two is extremely effective and the tonal range of the instrument is particularly wide. This Sheehan signature model weighs 9lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 50-105 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation. The one-piece maple neck has a medium depth U-shaped profile carve at the nut with more overall heft as you travel up the fretboard and faintly rolled fretboard edges in every register, measuring .850" deep at the 1st fret and .995" at the 12th. The medium jumbo fretwire is perfect, and the bass plays cleanly up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The brass nut measures 42mm in width (1.650"), and the headstock features vintage-spec tuners with full-size baseplates, clover buttons, and gleaming chrome plating. The Hipshot D-Tuner allows for instant drop D tuning with excellent reliability. The "Made in Japan" text and U-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate. The factory electronics all function as intended, with dedicated Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The LeoQuan Badass II bridge offers significant mass, ensuring ideal sustain and resonance. Cosmetic wear is limited to just a couple absolutely tiny nicks in the clear coat of the Natural gloss finish on the body as a whole, and the neck profile also retains its smooth gloss with just a couple tiny marks on the profile length. The last four frets also have post-factory scalloping on the treble side, along with some ambered touchup after the scalloping was performed. One could say that this scalloping was done with the same level of care (or tinkering with reckless abandon) that Sheehan had for his "Wife" bass.A padded gigbag is included.
