Up for sale, a 2010 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass in 100% original condition and in good working order. A "Made in Japan" exclusive model not designed for export, this particular Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically, with a PJ pickup configuration, bound body, and gloss Black finish with matching headstock. While most Fender basses that have the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2" nut width of the Jazz Bass. The pickups offer both the ample thump and heft of a split coil Precision neck pickup and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz pickup at the bridge. The bass is well-balanced on a strap and easy on the back at 8lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with a fresh set of 45-105 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a medium C profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and more heft in the higher registers, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark, tight-grained cut with lightly rolled fretboard edges, and the slender vintage-style frets are flawless and play cleanly up the neck. The bass conforms to traditional Jazz Bass specifications with a 34" scale and easily navigable 1 1/2" nut width. The matching Black headstock features chrome clover button tuning machines that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Made in Japan" text and T-prefix serial number are present just above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The chrome plating on the bridge base and control plate is quite clean and bright, with uniform patina on the bridge saddles and chrome Strat-style knobs. Cosmetic wear includes a very small spot of light buckle rash at the edge of the belly contour, a few scattered marks on the body parameter and treble-side headstock edge, and some requisite light pick scuffing across the guard. The semi-gloss neck profile finish is particularly smooth, exhibiting some scattered shallow marks on the profile length.
A padded gigbag is included.
