Up for sale, a 2010 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A "Made in Japan" exclusive model not designed for export, this particular Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically, with a PJ pickup configuration, bound body, and custom color US Gunmetal Blue metallic finish with matching headstock.
While most Fender basses that have the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2" nut width of the Jazz Bass, providing both the ample thump and heft of a split coil Precision neck pickup and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz pickup at the bridge. This bass is well-balanced on a strap and weighs 8lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 45-100 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve at the nut with a bit more roundness and heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark, tight-grained cut, featuring dot inlay and pristine slender vintage-style frets. The bass plays effortlessly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. Conforming to traditional Jazz Bass specifications, this Aerodyne features a 34" scale length and easily navigable 1 1/2" nut width. The matching US Gunmetal Blue headstock features chrome clover button tuning machines that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well. The neck pocket and heel are stamped with the Aerodyne model details, along with a USG abbreviation for the finish and a 2010 date stamp.
All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control with chrome, Strat-style knobs. The chrome hardware is particularly clean on the control plate and bridge, with just a hint of patina on the knobs. A finish that sits between Dolphin Grey and Gunmetal Blue, "US Gunmetal Blue" has just a hint of blue in the gloss. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few tiny shallow marks on the back and body parameter, and a few light pick scuffs across the black three-ply pickguard. The neck profile has a smooth semi-gloss finish that feels great on the palm.
