Up for sale, a 2010 Eddie Van Halen Wolfgang Special in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags, and case candy. After producing signature models with Music Man and Peavey, the guitar icon partnered with Fender in 2009 to launch his own EVH imprint/brand. The Wolfgang Special was released the following year, and like all EVH-branded guitars, the Wolfgang Special has features carefully curated and road-tested by EVH himself, with custom USA-made hardware and custom-wound Fender-made zebra-bobbin humbuckers.
Tonewoods include a basswood body with a bound maple top, and a maple neck capped by a heavily figured birdseye maple fretboard, yielding a clear and authoritative natural acoustic quality faithfully captured by the humbuckers. The custom-wound zebra bobbin humbuckers are big and bold, perfectly tailored for high gain and articulate cleans, with great treble detail and focused low end. The bridge pickup (metering at 13.5k ohms) has a sharper, aggressive bite and the neck (15.6k ohms) offers fuller chunk. This EVH weighs just 7lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a slender asymmetrical C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder on the bass-side and a speedy, slimmer treble side, measuring .795” deep at the 1st fret and .905” at the 12th. The figured birdseye maple fingerboard has a compound 12-16” radius with pristine slender stainless steel fretwire. This guitar plays clearly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The locking nut measures 1 11/16” in width. On the headstock, the EVH-stamped, pearloid button Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The back of the headstock retains the hex key adjustment wrenches for the tremolo system.
All the electronics function flawlessly, with the pair of humbuckers governed by a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The harness features custom EVH-embossed full-size pots, dated to August, 2010. The EVH-custom Floyd Rose two-point tremolo system shines like new and actuates effortlessly, perfect for the deepest divebombs. EVH was the first artist to have a signature Floyd Rose, and this particular unit was designed specifically for the Wolfgang Special, featuring the addition of a D-Tuna for instant drop D tuning. The D-Tuna is not currently on the instrument, but is present in the case.
There’s sparingly little cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish, comprising some light scuffing across the pick path and a few faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate.
The original EVH-brand molded hardshell case with plush burgundy interior is included, along with the hangtags and case candy including EVH-branded strings, picks and strap.
