Up for sale, a 2009 B.C. Rich Widow WMD 5-String bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Immediately eye-catching, this dramatic bass could only have come from the self-admittedly twisted minds at B.C. Rich.
Tonewoods include a mahogany body with mahogany neck-through construction capped by a thick slab ebony fretboard, giving this bass a glassy, responsive feel with plenty of natural resonance. The pickups, a pair of B.C. Rich proprietary P-style pups, have an absolutely monstrous tone with a deep, thunderous low end. And thanks to the onboard EQ and active electronics, there's a remarkable range of available tones from crisp, articulate punch to tight round warmth and wooly thump. Weighing 9lbs 2oz, this Widow WMD 5-string has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-125 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.
The mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with a hair more shoulder and overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .895” at the 12th. The thick slab ebony fretboard has a flat 16” radius and retains the original jumbo frets, which have plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, showing no wear. This bass plays comfortably up the 35” scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 45mm (~1 3/4”) in width. The headstock features a silver B.C. Rich logo and original Grover tuners which turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.
All the electronics work as intended, with the two proprietary P-style pickups wired into the 9V battery-powered active suite of 4 knobs: Master Volume, center-detent Pickup Blend, and Bass and Treble EQ for maximum tonal sculpting. Hardware includes the original quartet of dome-topped knurled knobs and bridge, all with clean black plating.
The gloss Onyx finish is in excellent condition, with little wear beyond some requisite light scuffing along the pick path, a number of faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the back of the body, and a small amount of black touchup on the rear body tips. Overall, the bass has been very well kept, even retaining the factory protective film on the rear control cavity covers, indicative of how little use this bass has seen since new. The gloss finish on the neck profile is immaculate.
The original B.C. Rich padded gigbag is included.
