Up for sale, a 2008 Martin Vintage Series 00-18V, near mint with a few key cosmetic and sonic upgrades. Tweaks to the 00-18V platform include a Greven pickguard, genuine Waverly open-gear tuning machines, and a hand-carved bone nut and saddle. This Martin boasts a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, an ebony fingerboard and bridge, V neck profile carve, and full 1 3/4" wide nut.
Extremely clear and lively, the guitar delivers ample projection and power, offering the smooth growl of mahogany when you dig in hard with a flat pick. Trebles are sweet and punchy, the midrange is balanced, and the wound strings are full and rumbling while retaining plenty of focus and clarity. The EQ curve of the instrument is very sympathetic to fingerpicking, and the warmth of the mahogany back and sides keeps everything full-sounding regardless of how hard you play. The guitar is featherweight at 3lbs 15oz. Professionally setup and freshly restrung with 12-53 strings, this 00-18V is dialed in and ready for stage and studio use.
The mahogany neck has a V profile carve, measuring .860" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 9th. The ebony fretboard features graduated abalone dot inlay and flawless original slender fretwire which has its full factory height and well-rounded crowns. The guitar plays easily up the 24.9" scale, and the upgraded hand-carved bone nut measures a full 1 3/4" in width. The Martin script logo is flawless on the rosewood headstock veneer, and the upgraded Waverly tuning machines perfectly match the footprint of the original Martin gears, with superior construction and an extremely smooth response.
The ebony bridge sits flush with the top, and the upgraded carved bone saddle has plenty of height (original saddle is also included). The endpin is an upgraded carved wood pin (original included as well). The high gloss nitro lacquer body finish is accented by an upgraded Greven pickguard, and the guitar is crack-free, exhibiting faint vertical lacquer checking on the treble side of the top, and just a couple exceedingly faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the back. The smooth satin nitro lacquer neck profile finish has been buffed to a semi-gloss from contact with the palm.
The original Martin-branded black tolex hardshell case is included.
