Up for sale, a 2008 Gibson Limited Edition Robot Les Paul Studio in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original case. Released in small quantities at NAMM Summer 2008, the Robot instruments were Gibson’s first to feature self-tuning technology. This particular Robot Les Paul Studio has been de-robotted, outfitted with a pair of Fishman Fluence pickups and traditional appointments including Grover Rotomatic tuning machines and a wiring harness designed to maximize the versatility of the Fluence pickups (original electronics and hardware are also included). This Les Paul Studio has a tonewood complement comprising a mahogany body with a carved maple top and a mahogany neck capped by a bound ebony fretboard, and at 8lbs 2oz it's notably lightweight. The Fishman Fluence Modern humbuckers are particularly versatile, with two unique voices on each pickup toggled by push/pull Tone pots. The neck pickup features Alnico V construction, and can be toggled between the throaty fullness and growl of a modern active humbucker and the breathy, bell-like roundness of a Wide Range humbucker. The Ceramic VIII bridge pickup’s switch acts like a coil split, toggling between a high output, distortion-ready modern humbucker and the snappy twang of a single coil pickup. The Fluence pickups can be further tweaked via the voicing sliders on their circuit board baseplates. The Fluence pickups are powered by a 9V battery, and the original pair of 490R and 498T humbuckers are present in the case. This Les Paul Studio has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation. The mahogany neck has a medium depth C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders, offering a gentle increase in overall heft further up the fretboard, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .985” at the 12th. The bound ebony fretboard has a 12” radius and features pearloid trapezoid inlay and pristine medium jumbo fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the upgraded carved bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. On the headstock, the original set of automatic Tronical tuners have been replaced with genuine Grover Rotomatics, which turn smoothly and hold steady pitch (Tronical tuners also included). All of the electronics function as intended; the Fluence humbuckers are wired to a fully upgraded harness and powered by a 9V battery, governed by a three-way pickup selector switch, independent Volume and Tone knobs, and push/pull voicing toggles on the Tone controls. The original Neutrik locking output jack has been retained. The nickel-plated Nashville bridge and stopbar are replacements for the circuit board-fitted bridge and tailpiece originally used for the automatic Tronical tuners; the originals are present in the case, and the current hardware shines like new. The quartet of white reflector cap knobs are also replacements, with the originals in the case.Cosmetic wear on the gloss Metallic Green nitro lacquer finish is limited to a handful of tiny dings along the lower bout body edge and on the back, as well as some very limited buckle rash central to the lower bout and a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss. The original hardshell case is included, along with all of the Robot hardware/electronics, original Gibson humbucker pair, the user manual, and the Fishman Fluence pickup documentation.
