Up for sale, a 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus in near mint condition and in perfect working order. The top on this upper tiered "Plus" iteration of the Standard features straight tiger flame extending across the bookmatched maple, bisected by prominent grain and highlighted by the Heritage Cherry Sunburst gloss finish. Other unique features of the '08 model year include a substantial asymmetrical neck profile carve, TonePros Nashville Tune-o-Matic bridge and stopbar, locking Grover tuning machines, a locking Neutrik output jack, custom-made solderless potentiometers and a longer neck tenon.
Featherweight for a Les Paul at 7lbs 9oz, this Gibson features a chambered mahogany body and carved two-piece maple cap. The instrument has plenty of natural warmth, clarity and projection, and the pickups have been substituted for a pair of Seymour Duncans including a SH-1n PAF in the neck position and an SH-4 JB at the bridge. The SH-1 was designed in the spirit of the original PAF, with sweet singing sustain, wound to deliver full-sounding chords and midrange-forward attack. The SH-4 bridge pickup on the other hand is Duncan's original hot-rodded humbucker. The low end is full and powerful, the highs are crisp and detailed, and there’s an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords that translates to a singing, vocal-like quality when playing single notes or solos. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is dialed in with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and solid intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has the unique asymmetrical design that Gibson touted in '08. This ergonomic, tapered neck carve was designed to be thicker on the bass side and thinner on the treble side, closely outlining the natural form of the hand as it grips the neck. And while Gibson certainly waxed poetic about this neck shape, the result is essentially a medium D-shaped carve with generous shoulder at the nut and even more heft and roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .990" at the 12th. The bound dark rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, and the stock frets have ample meat and perfectly rounded crowns, just shy of medium jumbo and exhibiting no wear. This Les Paul plays cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, and the nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width. The headstock retains the Grover locking tuning machines with spotless chrome plating and metal tulip buttons.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the Seymour Duncan humbucker pair is wired to the original harness with solderless connections and a transparent back plate. The TonePros Nashville bridge and stopbar both lock to their posts for enhanced stability and sustain, and all of the original plastic parts are present and near mint. The Heritage Cherry gloss nitro lacquer finish is 100% original and exceedingly well-kept with just a couple faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the lower bout on the back, while the gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original black tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags and factory paperwork.
