Up for sale, a 2008 G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case, hangtags, warranty and COA. This ASAT is a modern iteration of Leo Fender's final vision of the traditional single-cutaway bolt-on neck guitar, loaded with a Magnetic Field Design (MFD) single coil bridge pickup and a PAF-style neck position humbucker.
Tonewoods include a semi-hollow swamp ash body and a one-piece maple neck, delivering the midrange heft and sonic authority of ash paired with the immediacy and glassy treble detail of maple. The semi-hollow construction ensures a certain smoothness and overarching tonal breadth, channeled through the MFD bridge position single coil which offers more throaty heft and midrange presence than a standard single coil, delivering crisp attack with complex harmonics. The neck position humbucker is rich and full, with both ample warmth and percussive cut. This G&L weighs 7lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gaining a hair more additional heft and roundness in the upper registers, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The fretboard has a modern 9 1/2“ radius and pristine medium jumbo fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8“ in width. On the headstock, the G&L-branded tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. Numerous factory markings are present on the neck heel and in the pocket, with a date stamp from Dec.15th, 2008.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by a three-way selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The chrome-plated control plate, flat-topped knurled knobs, and “ASAT Classic”-embossed bridge base are all notably clean, and the bridge is fitted with individual brass saddles. Plastics comprise the switch tip and the three-ply white pickguard.
The gloss Cherry Sunburst finish is bright and bold, highlighting the dynamic grain in the swamp ash body. This is an exceedingly well-kept G&L, with cosmetic wear limited to a handful of faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the back. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
