Up for sale, a 2008 Fender Telecaster ‘62 vintage reissue model TL62-65US in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Built exclusively for the Japanese domestic market during Fender Japan’s “Crafted in Japan” era, the quality fit and finish of these instruments provided stiff competition for Fender’s American Vintage line.

The tonewood complement includes an alder body, maple neck, and slab rosewood fretboard. Acoustically, this guitar has a rich natural sustain and resonance, translated faithfully by the stock Fender American Vintage Telecaster pickups. The pickups are bright and sparkling; offering more warmth and percussive cut at the neck and more twang and bite at the bridge. Weighing 7lbs 15oz, we’ve had this Telecaster professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a modestly chunky C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .860” deep at the 1st fret and .970” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and stock slender fretwire that shows moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-12, becoming progressively lighter as you approach the octave. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan text and S-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

All the electronics function as intended, with the USA-made Fender pickups wired to the stock harness with a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The string-through body bridge features vintage-spec spiral saddles, and the chrome plating on the control plate and flat top knurled knobs is notably clean. The three-ply white pickguard rounds out the plastics.

Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish is limited to an area of buckle worming on the back central to the waist, a few minor dings on the lower bout perimeter, and a handful of faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.

A gigbag is included.
