Up for sale, a 2008 Fender Telecaster ‘55 vintage reissue model TL55-88TX in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. A “Crafted in Japan” model built exclusively for the Japanese domestic market; this rare, upper-tiered Tele was only produced for a few years and is uncommon even within Japan. Notable features include factory-installed Fender Custom Shop black bobbin Texas Special pickups and a chunky V-shaped neck profile carve.

Tonewoods include the ash body and one-piece maple neck, and the instrument’s natural acoustic tone is snappy and crystal clear, with the midrange heft and punch indicative of ash, and the glassy snap of maple. The Texas Specials' slightly boosted, overwound construction yields plenty of sonic authority and midrange cut. The bridge pickup delivers chewy twang with a white-hot bite, while the neck position has a sweet, bell-like response. This Tele weighs 7lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike and Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.

The neck has a chunky V-shaped profile carve with plenty of heft, and this proper "boat neck" measures an impressive .910” deep at the 1st fret and .995” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a 7 1/4” radius and stock slender frets that have their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-7. This Tele plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 42mm (1.650") in width. The headstock has an era-appropriate round string tree and spaghetti-style Fender logo. The Kluson-style Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” text and S-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the Fender Custom Shop Texas Special black bobbin pickup pair governed by a three-way selector switch and Volume and Tone controls with domed knurled knobs. The chrome-plated hardware is extremely clean, and the one-ply white pickguard shows some requisite pick scuffing across the strum path. The transparent White Blonde finish highlights the broad, prominent grain of the ash body, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few isolated small nicks and faint finish scratches on the body as a whole, with a few small spots of wear on the back that fall short of “buckle rash”. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless beyond one tiny nick behind fret 3 that has no impact on playability.

The original Fender gigbag is included.
