Up for sale, a 2008 Fender Stratocaster ‘62 vintage reissue model ST62-US in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, finished in custom color Daphne Blue. Produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and uncommon outside of its country of origin, this “Crafted in Japan” Stratocaster features Fender's American Vintage 57/62 single coils.
Designed to pay homage to the golden era Pre-CBS Stratocaster, this Fender has a balanced, clear natural acoustic quality with a basswood body, maple neck and a slab rosewood fretboard. The factory-installed 57/62 single coils are the same pickups used in Fender's American Vintage line, featuring black fiber bobbins, cloth-covered leads, and staggered Alnico pole pieces. Via the five-way pickup selector switch, the bridge pickup has plenty of bounce and sparkle, the neck pickup is bold and round with a throaty cut, and the "in-between" positions on the five-way pickup selector switch deliver quintessential quack. This Strat weighs 8lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gaining a hair more heft and roundness in the upper registers, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4“ radius, and the slender fretwire exhibits light wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-3, with wear growing lighter beneath the plain strings until the octave. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” text and T-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as intended, with the trio of USA-made Fender single coil pickups wired to the stock harness and governed by a standard Strat control configuration. The chrome-plated jack cup and bridge base shine like new, with a light dusting of patina on the saddles. Plastics comprise the uniformly yellowed knobs and pickup covers, with a three-ply parchment pickguard that has some requisite scuffing along the treble side of the strum path.
Cosmetic wear on the custom color Daphne Blue gloss finish is limited to a handful of minor nicks along the lower bout perimeter, light buckle wear central to the back, and a few faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is nigh flawless.
The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
