Up for sale, a 2008 Fender Jazzmaster molde JM66 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, upgraded with a pair of USA Fender J Mascis pickups. This "Crafted in Japan" Jazzmaster was designed for the Japanese domestic market and long ago discontinued, uncommon outside its country of origin.
Tonewoods include an alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard, and at 7lbs 7oz, this Jazzmaster is a lightweight example with a smooth, clear acoustic voice. The USA-made Fender J Mascis pickups feature gray fiber bobbins, cloth-covered leads and Alnico II magnets. A bit smoother and darker than Fender's AV65 pickups and wax-potted for excellent feedback rejection, these pickups are wound to J Mascis' personal specs and are designed to interact famously with heavy gain and fuzz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster is dialed in with low action, accurate intonation, and 10-46 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a medium depth C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and rolled fretboard edges, measuring .855” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4" radius with dot inlay, and the slender fretwire exhibits moderate wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-10. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1.650" (42mm) in width. The headstock has a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson-style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Crafted in Japan" text and S-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics function as intended, and the Lead Circuit components have been upgraded with USA parts including a Switchcraft three-way pickup selector, CTS 1 Meg pots and a Sprague Orange Drop tone cap. The vibrato unit engages smoothly, working in concert with the upgraded Mustang-style bridge with barrel saddles. Plastics include the deep reddish brown tortoise pickguard, original pickup covers, and cream USA Fender knobs.
Cosmetic wear on the gloss three-tone Sunburst finish includes a number of minor dings on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the perimeter and lower bout on the back, as well as some very light buckle rash central to the waist. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss.
A padded softshell case is included.
***We are dealers for the Mastery M2 bridge, OMV-P Offset Vibrato, and Lollar pickups, any or all of which can be installed prior to shipment for an additional charge***
