Up for sale, a 2008 Fender Custom Shop David Gilmour Stratocaster in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, COA, and all accessories. An early first-year example of this highly desirable (and long ago discontinued) Custom Shop model, this Strat includes an Evidence Audio cable, Custom Leather Strap, GHS DG Boomers Strings, DG Pick, David Gilmour’s Three Disc “Live In Gdansk” CD and DVD Package, a Copy of Phil Taylor’s “The Black Strat” Book, Polishing Cloth and the Certificate of Authenticity.
The Fender Custom Shop worked hand-in-hand with David Gilmour and his longtime guitar technician, Phil Taylor, to create his signature model, a faithful reproduction of the Black Strat - complete with its unmistakable look, sound and feel. Featuring a "Thin Skin" Black nitro lacquer over three-tone Sunburst gloss finish, select alder body, one-piece maple neck, custom pickups, and David Gilmour's now-famous electronics and shortened vintage tremolo arm, the David Gilmour Signature Series Stratocaster is as elegant powerful and idiosyncratic as David Gilmour's playing.
A cornerstone of Pink Floyd's revolutionary and incomparable sound, David Gilmour's Black Strat is featured extensively on The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall and his critically-acclaimed 2006 solo effort, On An Island. Acoustically, the guitar offers a clear, shimmering natural tone, extremely balanced with sweet sustain. The pickup complement includes a hand-wound Fat 50s neck pickup, custom middle position single coil, and a Seymour Duncan SSL-5 bridge pickup. The five-way blade pickup selector functions in traditional fashion, offering detailed sparkle and bell-like chime, with signature Strat cut and squawk in positions 2 and 4. The tiny two-way mini toggle on the pickguard engages the neck pickup in positions 1-3 on the blade switch. The guitar weighs 7lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The one-piece maple neck has a "thin-shouldered" C-shaped profile carve duplicated from Gilmour’s 1983 Fender American Vintage ‘57 Strat neck, measuring .790" deep that the 1st fret and .870" at the 12th. The fretboard has lightly rolled edges for added comfort, and the 7 1/4" radius board features vintage spec slender fretwire that retains its full height and well-rounded crowns. The frets are practically perfect, with just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-2. The guitar plays effortlessly up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1.675" in width. The headstock features a Stratocaster decal and Custom Shop chevron, with Kluson-style tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably.
The custom electronics function flawlessly, and hardware includes the tremolo unit which has a custom beveled block and shortened arm. The chrome plating on the hardware is gleaming, and near mint plastics include a single-ply pickguard which shows just a bit of light pick scuffing, along with aged white pickup covers and parchment knobs. The NOS Black gloss "Thin Skin" nitro lacquer finish exhibits just a couple tiny nicks on the body perimeter at the treble-side waist, and a few faint finish scratches in a small area on the bass-side lower bout on the back. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original hardshell case is included, along with the COA and all accessories.
