Up for sale, a 2008 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass model AJB in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags. A “Crafted in Japan” model sold exclusively within the Japanese domestic market, this Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically with features including a PJ pickup configuration, bound body, and gloss Vintage White finish with matching headstock.
While most Fender basses outfitted with the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2” nut width of the Jazz Bass. The pickups offer the ample thump and heft of a Precision split-coil neck pickup, and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz Bass pickup at the bridge. Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. This bass weighs 8lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a medium depth U-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .970” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this tonewood with a 7 1/4” radius, and the slender fretwire is nigh flawless. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. On the matching headstock, the clover-button tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” text and S-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The chrome-plated hardware includes the bridge, control plate, and Strat-style knobs, which have a light dusting of surface patina.
The gloss Vintage White finish is framed on top by black binding, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a scant few tiny nicks and faint scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate and highlights subtle flame figuring in the maple.
A padded gigbag is included.
